Restaurant Review: Fletchers Restaurant at Grantley Hall
Grantley Hall is the ultimate luxury destination in Yorkshire, and after my first visit I already can’t wait to go again!
This former stately home has had a £70million makeover and it shows, from the beautifully landscaped gardens to the perfectly finished interior. Every single detail has been carefully considered. And from the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome; the customer service was excellent and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful.
There are several options for fine dining, including EightyEight which offers a fusion of Yorkshire produce and Far Eastern cuisine, and a Michelin-starred experience at Shaun Rankin At Grantley Hall. We opted for Fletchers Restaurant, which offers British and European cuisine.
To start I ordered roasted scallops, which were served with apple, celeriac and hazelnuts. This was my favourite dish, the scallops were delicious and all the flavours worked so well together.
For the main I opted for fish again and went for the North Atlantic stone bass, which came with baby squid, braised fennel, a saffron & fennel puree, semi dried tomatoes, and a rich red pepper butter sauce. The flavour of each element really came through in the dish. The waiter recommended I order a side, and I went with his suggestion of Lyonnaise potatoes which were so crispy and moorish.
The citrus & almond délice was the ideal dessert to round off the meal. This consisted of an almond dacquoise, praline crémeux, almond mousse and blood orange. This was both vegan and gluten free, but you would never have known! I also ordered a bonus dessert because I couldn’t resist a scoop of the Yorkshire rhubarb sorbet.
After lunch we were taken through to the bar to a table next to an open fire. For the next few hours we made our way through the cocktail menu, and before we knew it we’d been there for several hours, and decided it was time to head home.
My first visit to Grantley Hall was incredible from start to finish, and I’d love to go back again later this year. I’m hoping my next visit will include a stay at the hotel and a couple of treatments at the award-winning spa. It’s just going to be a very difficult decision to choose which restaurant to dine at next time!
